The Staten Island Museum

Description: Based on the new book Staten Island and the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge: Chaos Comes to a Community, we’ll look at the building boom that occurred. Houses were built and bought quickly, leading to overdevelopment. Schools scrambled to find seats for thousands of arriving students. The antiquated sewer system could not handle the overload, and there simply wasn’t enough room for all of the septic tanks needed. Let’s look at the changes that swept over the island after “The Bridge” was officially opened.

FREE, but donations to the Friends of Olmsted-Beil House are appreciated.
