Details: Naturalist Ray Matarazzo and historian Tina Kaasmann-Dunn will co-lead a walk and lecture from the meeting site to the shoreline. Tina will discuss Frederick Law Olmsted (1822-1903) an American landscape architect, journalist, social critic, and public administrator. He is the father of American landscape architecture and lived in Eltingville from 1847-1850s. Ms. Kaasmann-Dunn will also discuss John Hale, born in London 1852. A sugar exporter, he came to NY in 1882 and settled in Eltingville and lived in the Olmsted House. Attend to learn how Staten Island’s fascinating local history has connections across the globe. Walk will continue to the beach where Ray will discuss natural history. If driving to the site, park on neighboring streets of Hales Ave, and Woods of Arden.
