Olmsted and Wiman: Making Visions Reality
Sunday, April 19 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Presenter: Patricia Salmon
Erastus Wiman and Frederick Law Olmsted were kindred spirits: both went beyond the borders of what they knew as young men, and both attempted to create places that were welcoming and inviting to the masses.
In Olmsted and Wiman: Making Visions Reality, Patricia Salmon will tell their stories and explain how the Olmsted-Beil House figured prominently in their endeavors. They both owned the structure, but at separate times during the 19th century, and for distinctly different purposes. Discover how Olmsted’s life flew to surreal heights, whereas Wiman’s vision and career ended in embarrassment, except for one historic creation…
Patricia Salmon has authored five books on the history of Staten Island. She is a retired Curator of History from the Staten Island Museum.
